Pics from the 4th....

We headed out again this year to Papa John's in the gulf for our annual 4th of July trip.  We weren't sure about the crowds (or lack of) with the oil spill and all.  Come to find out, he was near the border where you can safely do recreational fishing - so that's where everyone that would have usually been west in the gulf were for the 4th.  We didn't see any tar balls on the beach, but did see several "official" looking helicopters and boats out scanning the shoreline.  Overall, his little beach town has been unscathed by the spill (thus far).  The weather was a little rainy, but at least held out on the night of the 4th.

Thankfully, when we are not at the beach, Papa John sets up this pool in his backyard for the kids.  Sad to say they are getting a bit big for it.....

On the 4th, the guys went fishing early and I took the girls out to the beach to enjoy a break in the weather......except, to the right of my lounge chair - it looked like this.....
And to my left, it looked like this......
I waited until just the right moment and packed the girls up.  It literally started raining when we reached the car.  It's funny how living in the South you can get really good at predicting when the rain will move in and start pouring...
We were glad when it cleared up for fireworks.....another year of hundreds of rednecks and their illegal fireworks......it's so great to be a part of! (we are just embracing part of my children's heritage after all...)
The city did their own off of the pier.....I attempted to take some pics, but I didn't have a tripod.  That meant having to hold the camera still for 10-20 seconds after hitting the shutter.  They are a bit blurry, but you get the picture....

Thanks Papa John for putting up with us!  We love you!
